Translation has always helped ideas travel between cultures. But it has also shaped how cultures are understood, classified, and represented. This Between the Lines program explores the relationship between translation and power, from empire and cultural loss to resistance, repair, and the new questions raised by AI. Across five short videos and a live discussion, we consider what gets changed when one world interprets another, and what more responsible forms of cultural exchange might look like. The goal is not perfect translation, but a more honest encounter with difference.
