China: Language, Culture & Ideas

China is often explained through broad categories. But much of what makes a culture legible lives at a smaller scale: in words, stories, inherited ideas, everyday expressions, and the assumptions people carry without explaining them.

Programs

This collection looks closely at those details, and at what happens when Chinese ideas travel beyond the contexts in which they first made sense.

It is a way of encountering China through language and culture, while leaving room for complexity, change, and more than one interpretation.
